A cold room is the most valuable piece of refrigeration in most food businesses, because everything else depends on it. When it drifts warm, the problem is rarely mysterious. In our experience it is usually one of four things: a blocked or dirty condenser, a defrost fault leaving the evaporator iced up, a failed or leaking door seal, or a refrigerant leak that has slowly bled the charge down.

For repairs, we diagnose properly before quoting. That means checking running pressures and superheat rather than just topping up refrigerant, because a system that needs gas has a leak, and topping up without finding the leak is throwing money at the problem. Leak detection and repair is part of the job, not an upsell.

For new builds, we size the plant to the room volume, the product being stored, how often the door opens and the ambient conditions where the condensing unit sits. Undersized plant runs constantly and never quite holds temperature on a hot day. Oversized plant short cycles and wears itself out. We install the panels, door, floor, refrigeration, drainage, electrics and controls, then commission and hand over with paperwork.

Cold rooms belong on a planned schedule. See refrigeration maintenance contracts or call 07940 953486.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Why is my cold room not getting cold enough?

Most often a dirty condenser, an iced evaporator caused by a defrost fault, a failed door seal letting warm air in, or a refrigerant leak. Those four cover the large majority of call outs. Diagnosis takes pressures and temperatures, not guesswork.

Can you repair a cold room rather than replace it?

Usually yes. Panels, doors, seals, evaporators and condensing units can all be replaced individually. Full replacement is only worth it when the panel insulation is saturated or the layout no longer suits the business.

How long does a new cold room take to install?

A typical single room build is a few days on site once the equipment has arrived, depending on access, electrical supply and whether drainage needs running. We give a schedule with the quote.

Can you fit temperature alarms?

Yes. Alarms and monitoring are strongly recommended on any cold room holding valuable stock, so a fault at 2am is a phone alert rather than a morning discovery.

Do you work on freezer rooms as well as chillers?

Yes, including low temperature freezer rooms with heated doors and frames, and their defrost and drain heater arrangements.
