Refrigeration repair is a diagnosis job before it is a parts job. A cabinet that is not holding temperature can be a fouled condenser, an iced evaporator, a failed fan, a defrost fault, a door that is not sealing, a controller reading wrongly, or a genuine loss of refrigerant. Six of those seven are cheap. Guessing is what makes them expensive.

We work through the possibilities in cost order and take readings rather than opinions. The result is that most first visits end in a repair rather than a return trip, because the parts that fail most often are on the van.

Where refrigerant has been lost, the leak gets repaired. That is both the right engineering answer and the regulatory one, and it is why we record refrigerant added or recovered against the specific system rather than as a line on an invoice.

Finally, we will tell you when to stop spending. An ageing cabinet with a failed compressor and a scarce refrigerant is usually a replacement, and you are better off hearing that once than paying for the same conversation in instalments.

How it works

A simple, transparent process.

  1. 01

    Describe the fault

Equipment type, temperature, noises and how long it has been drifting.

  2. 02

    Attend and test

Electrical, airflow, fouling, defrost, then pressures and charge.

  3. 03

    Repair on the visit

Where the part is carried, which covers most single faults.

  4. 04

    Quote what is left

Written price for ordered parts, with a realistic timescale.

  5. 05

    Prevent the repeat

The cause explained, and a schedule offered if it would have caught it.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What commercial refrigeration do you repair?

Cold rooms and freezer rooms, multidecks, serve overs, prep and under counters, blast chillers, cellar cooling, ice machines and remote cases on pack systems. Integral or remote, any of the common manufacturers, whether we installed it or not.

How do you charge for a repair visit?

A first visit covers diagnosis and, in most cases, the repair, because the common failure parts are carried on the van. Anything needing an ordered part is quoted in writing before it is placed. Maintenance contract customers pay a lower labour rate and are attended first.

Do you just top up the gas?

No. If a system has lost refrigerant it has a leak, and a top up simply pays for the same fault twice. We trace the leak, repair it, pressure test, evacuate and recharge by weight, and record the refrigerant movement as the regulations require.

How long do repairs usually take?

Most single faults are resolved within the visit: fan motors, contactors, controllers, probes, defrost heaters, seals and closers. Leak repairs and compressor changes take longer and are quoted before work starts, with a realistic timescale rather than an optimistic one.

When is it better to replace than repair?

When the repair cost approaches a meaningful share of replacement, when the system runs a phased down refrigerant that is expensive or scarce, or when the same unit has failed repeatedly. We give you the figures and the likely remaining life so the decision is yours on the facts.

Can a repair visit turn into a maintenance contract?

Frequently, and it usually saves money. A repair tells you what failed once; a contract stops the same cause building up again, and it moves you to the front of the queue with a lower labour rate next time.
