Refrigeration breakdown

Commercial refrigeration breakdowns, attended by refrigeration engineers.

Cabinets, counters, packs, cold rooms and cellar cooling. Most firms lead with air conditioning and treat fridges as an afterthought. Refrigeration is half of what we do, every week.

When a commercial fridge fails, there is money attached to every hour. That is the difference between refrigeration and comfort cooling: nobody loses a delivery because an office is warm, but a warm multideck on a Friday afternoon can write off a weekend of trade.

Diagnosis runs in a fixed order because guessing is expensive. Power and controls first, then airflow and fouling, then defrost behaviour, then pressures and charge. Only when the readings say so do we start talking about compressors, which is the part everyone fears and the one that fails least.

If the system has lost refrigerant, it has a leak. We find it, repair it, pressure test, evacuate and recharge by weight. Topping up a leaking system is cheap on the day and expensive by the end of the quarter, and it is not compliant either.

You will get an honest view on whether an ageing cabinet is worth repairing again. Sometimes the right answer is a replacement, and we would rather say that than sell you the same repair twice.

How it works

A simple, transparent process.

  1. 01

    Tell us what has failed

Equipment type, temperature now, and how long it has been drifting.

  2. 02

    Protect the stock

Practical steps while we are on the way, including what to move first.

  3. 03

    On site diagnosis

Electrical, mechanical, airflow, charge and controls checked in order.

  4. 04

    Repair on the visit

Where the part is on the van, which it usually is.

  5. 05

    Written outcome

What failed, what was done, and what will fail next if nothing changes.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Which refrigeration breakdowns do you treat as urgent?

Anything holding stock you cannot replace or cannot legally sell once it has been warm: cold rooms, freezer rooms, serve overs, multidecks, prep counters and cellar cooling. A display cabinet in a quiet shop and a chef's fridge on a Saturday service are not the same priority, and we will be straight with you about where you sit in the queue.

Do you fix cabinets and counters as well as fixed plant?

Yes. Integral cabinets, remote cases on a pack, under counters, prep counters, blast chillers, ice machines and cellar systems. If it moves heat out of a box, we work on it.

Is it worth repairing an old commercial fridge?

Sometimes. The honest test is the cost of the repair against the remaining life and the running cost. A fifteen year old cabinet with a failed compressor and a phased down refrigerant rarely justifies the spend; a five year old one with a fan motor obviously does. We give you the numbers rather than a recommendation to buy new by default.

What refrigerants do you work with?

The common commercial gases in use today, plus honest advice where a system runs an older phased down refrigerant. Where a gas is scarce or expensive, we set out the options in writing so a repair decision is made on facts rather than at the point of failure.

Can you attend outside normal hours?

Out of hours attendance is available to maintenance contract customers, arranged and priced in advance rather than invented at the door. For everyone else we will get to you as fast as the day's route allows.

How do we stop this happening again?

Nearly every emergency we attend traces back to something a planned visit would have found: a fouled condenser, a defrost fault, a tired door seal or a slow leak. A refrigeration maintenance contract costs less per year than a single bad weekend of lost stock.
