Home air conditioning that keeps you cool and warm.
Sleepless in a hot bedroom? Call Ted about a quiet system.

Opening windows lets in noise and pollen, and a portable unit roars in the corner while pushing hot air out of a hose through a gap in the window. A fixed system does the job properly and almost silently.
Ted McCarthy Services fits domestic systems from Hemel Hempstead across Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and London, backed by more than thirty years of experience and Refcom F-Gas certification.
Choosing a layout for your home
For one room, a wall-mounted split is the simplest route: a slim indoor unit high on the wall, a short pipe run through the wall and a compact outdoor unit. If you want to cool several bedrooms, a multi-split lets one outdoor unit feed several indoor units, each with its own remote. In a new extension or during a renovation, a ducted system can be hidden in the ceiling void so that only small grilles show.
Because every system we fit is a heat pump, it earns its place all year. Many owners find they use it as much for taking the chill off a home office in November as for cooling in August.
Noise, looks and the outdoor unit
The question homeowners ask most is about sound. Indoor units run at a whisper on night settings. The outdoor unit is the part that needs thought, so at the survey we look at where it can sit on a wall bracket or ground stand clear of bedroom windows, patios and boundaries, and where the pipework can run neatly with the condensate taken to a drain.
In older houses we plan routes to protect cornicing, brickwork and original features. You then receive a written quotation, with no hidden costs, before anything is booked. Once the system is running, regular servicing keeps filters clean and the unit working efficiently.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Will a home system be noisy?
Modern indoor units are quiet enough for bedrooms. Most of the sound comes from the outdoor unit, so its position is agreed with you at the survey, away from windows and neighbours where possible.
Can it heat the house as well?
Yes. Every system we install is a heat pump, so the same indoor unit that cools in July can warm the room in winter.
Can one outdoor unit serve several rooms?
Yes, that is a multi-split system. One outdoor unit connects to indoor units in two or more rooms, each with its own control. It keeps the outside of the house tidier than several separate units.
Can you fit it in an older or period house?
Usually, yes. Pipe routes and unit positions are planned at the survey to avoid damage to original features, and ducted or carefully placed wall units can keep the look of a room intact.
How do I get a price?
Book a free site survey. You then receive a written quotation covering the equipment, installation and commissioning, with no hidden costs.

Air conditioning for bedrooms and better sleep
Bedroom air conditioning has a different brief to a living room or office: it needs to be heard as little as possible, and felt as little as possible.
Multi-Split Air Conditioning Systems vs Single Split
Short answer: choose multi-split for three or more rooms when outside space is tight; choose single splits when rooms are far apart or you want each one independent.
Retrofitting Air Conditioning in an Older Property
Period properties bring specific challenges for AC installation — here's how we work around solid walls, lofts and conservation areas.
Air conditioning for home offices and garden rooms
Garden rooms and converted home offices often have more glazing and less thermal mass than the rest of the house, so they overheat faster and need their own dedicated cooling.
