AC breakdown

Air conditioning breakdown cover when the room has to stay cool.

Not cooling, leaking, tripping out or throwing a fault code. We diagnose properly with gauges and readings rather than adding gas and leaving you to find out it was a leak.

Not cooling today? Call and we will tell you honestly when we can attend.

Air conditioning rarely fails without warning. It fades: a slow refrigerant leak, a condenser that has not been cleaned in three summers, a condensate pump that has been noisy for a month. By the time somebody calls it an emergency, the system has usually been telling the building it was unwell for a while.

Our diagnosis starts with the cheap possibilities and works up. Settings and filters, then airflow and fouling, then electrical components, then pressures. That order matters, because it stops you paying for a refrigerant investigation on a unit that was simply set to fan only.

Where the system has lost charge, we find the leak and repair it. Adding gas to a leaking system is not a repair, it is a delay with an invoice attached, and under F-Gas rules a known leak has to be fixed rather than fed.

If a unit is genuinely at the end of its life, we will tell you what a replacement looks like and what it would cost, so a decision can be made calmly rather than in the middle of a heatwave.

How it works

A simple, transparent process.

  1. 01

    Describe the fault

What it is doing, what changed, and any code on the controller.

  2. 02

    Quick checks

We will run through the handful you can safely do yourself first.

  3. 03

    Attend and test

Electrical, airflow, pressures and controls, in that order.

  4. 04

    Fix or quote

Repaired on the visit where the part is carried, otherwise quoted in writing.

  5. 05

    Prevent a repeat

What caused it, and whether a service schedule would have caught it.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

My air conditioning has stopped cooling. Is it an emergency?

It depends what the room does. An office that is uncomfortable can usually wait a day. A server room, a treatment room, a shop floor in a heatwave or a kitchen that cannot run its service cannot, and those we treat as urgent.

What should we check before calling out an engineer?

Three things that account for a surprising share of callouts: the unit is actually set to cooling rather than fan or auto, the filters are not blocked solid, and the outdoor unit is not obstructed or iced. If all three are fine, stop there and call, because everything past that point needs gauges.

The unit is blowing but not cold. What does that usually mean?

Most often a low refrigerant charge from a leak, a fouled condenser raising head pressure, or a failed fan on the outdoor unit. Ice on the pipework points strongly at charge or airflow. None of these are fixed by leaving it running, and running it low on gas risks the compressor.

Water is dripping from the indoor unit. Is that urgent?

It is urgent if it is dripping onto stock, equipment or a ceiling tile. It is normally a blocked condensate drain, a failed pump or a float switch that has not tripped. Turn the unit off to stop the flow and call, because water damage costs more than the repair does.

How fast can you get to us?

We are based in Hemel Hempstead and cover a 40 to 50 mile radius, so most of Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and North London can be reached the same day. Maintenance contract customers are attended ahead of ad hoc callers.

Do you repair systems you did not install?

Yes, and most of what we repair somebody else installed. We work on the major manufacturers including Panasonic, LG and Midea, along with the other common brands found in UK commercial buildings.
